The New Forest was created by William the Conqueror in the 18th Century as a hunting forest. Traditions here haven't really changed here in a thousand years.

As you go through the forest you will soon see that ponies and cattle have the right of way as they freely graze along the roadside.

It is a surprise to many visitors that less than half of the forest is actually wooded. The term forest was actually taken to include not only woodland, but the heathland as well.

For those who love wildlife it is the ideal place. As well as the ponies and cattle, the deer can be seen along with reptiles and birds.

All this is best seen by taking a walk or hiring a bike and going for a cycle ride .
